Climate Active Organisation

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing Australia today, and our impact on climate as a construction company is significant. Construction projects are challenging and complex from start to finish, and we recognise our commitment to become more sustainable is urgent but equally a long-term, always-on approach.

1. Reduce
NEXT innovation working group working on ways to reduce carbon emissions on sites, at our office, and in the everyday lives of Figurehead staff. Current emission reduction strategies focus on improving construction site waste management and separation, and transitioning to Greenpower for electricity, our source of emissions. Investigating how we can educate to install at-home solar to offset any impact when working from home with rebates and education.

2. Offset
We’re offsetting majority of our emissions by investing in Carbon Neutral’s Australian Native Reforestation Project in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor, in conjunction with wind farm renewable energy projects.

3. Considered Impact Developments
Figurehead Group’s future office at 116 Rokeby St will be Carbon Neutral – and is targeting Platinum WELL Certification.

4. Accountability
Our commitment to carbon neutrality means continuing to measure and report on our environmental impact, assessing our progress with the goal of constant innovation and improvement. Our NEXT program keeps us accountable.

We work, live and play on lands that have never been ceded.

Figurehead are in the early stages of our cultural awareness and reconcilliation journey, to be informed and pay respect to traditional owners of our offices and all sites on which we work.
We respect and honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders past, present and future—acknowledging the stories, traditions and living First Nations cultures and commit to building a better, more sustainable future together.

In July 2022 our leadership team and 116 Rokeby Project team commenced Cultural Awareness training with the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, traditional owners of the land at Rokeby Street, Collingwood.

“Doing things the right way has been really important; and the significance is magnified with every yarn and First Nations story that has been generously shared with us. Knowing that the Traditional Owners have embraced the artwork as part of the community makes me really proud of what we're achieving at 116 Rokeby in particular."

Figurehead's own Asthma Charity

Zoe suffered an acute asthma attack and was rushed to hospital where she was immediately placed on life-support. Four days later, the Kennedy family was devastated to learn that Zoe would not recover.

In partnership with Asthma Australia, Figurehead established the Zoe Kennedy Foundation. Through grants and PhD Scholarships, the foundation helps fund progressive research into asthma prevention, management and eradication, with a specific focus on the increased risk for teenagers—and in doing so, honours a young life cut short.

Over $300,000 has been raised by the Zoe Kennedy Foundation, fun by Figurehead volunteers and the Kennedy family.

The Figurehead Group pursues innovation with focus and purpose. Operating within the structured environment of our NEXT program, we ensure every research and development initiative aligns with our organisational strategy.
