Constructed as part of a new ‘urban village’ designed to facilitate the growing education hub around Victoria University, Banbury Village – Stage 18 is a three-level timber frame complex featuring 38 apartments built over a concrete ground slab.
Located on the historic former site of the Beaurepaire tyre factory, this $7M project is part of a major redevelopment by Cedar Woods intended to establish quality academic, residential and retail facilities in vibrant, multi-cultural Footscray. The development pays homage to Melbourne’s industrial past and is designed to appeal to entry level first-home buyers and investors.
Following a rigorous tender process, Figurehead was awarded the comprehensive ‘Design and Construct’ contract. This meant we were able to expertly manage and coordinate every aspect of the planning and project management, including extensive design development of the lightweight three-level timber structure.
Construction for this project commenced in late March 2014, with Figurehead meeting – and surpassing – the client’s high expectations, particularly in regards to achieving excellence within the interior acoustics and fire safety features of the uncommonly lightweight structure.
“Since being appointed Figurehead has worked diligently, collaboratively and with the best interest of the project in mind.”
